Spud

Spud

Spud was "part of the family" they no longer wanted. As a young pig he was social and happy in the house and he enjoyed watching TV from his favorite spot on the couch. The human of the house thought it was funny until Spud would complain with loud grunting when the man would block his view when reclined in a recliner.

Instead of moving furniture, they moved Spud to a pen behind a building where Spud could see nothing but his tiny area.

The people and three large dogs had 20 acres to play. They said Spud would "ruin" the land and so he lived isolated.

Life was bleak and dull - a life of solitary confiement. He could hear people talk or dogs bark, but no one came to see him except for seconds a day when someone threw him food. No visiting, no attention. Days turned into weeks then months then years. On hot days there was no pool to cool off in. There was no place to go and no one to see. His legs became more arthritic and crippled. It was difficult to walk. No one knew. No one cared. What was his crime to deserve this total loneliness?

Spud was a joyful, sweet pig at Pigs Peace Sanctuary living a full life with many friends.

He got medical care and daily doeses of love. He can explore acres and acres of woods and pasture. He has friends. He never has to be alone again.
