Help the pigs
Olivers story

Spring 1998

Oliver

Oliver

Oliver has no control of his back legs. He must move by scooting about, pulling his weight with his front legs. We will never know what caused his injury though the vet speculates that inbreeding and genetic weakness may have predisposed him to it.

The reason doesn't matter or change anything. Oliver is quite remarkable and has won my admiration. He insists on breakfast first thing in the morning and on nice days grazes and on hot days hangs out in the pond. He sleeps with his buddy Joey.

Suprisingly, Oliver has been seen recently moving his back legs and even supporting weight on them for a few seconds. His sturday pig hide and lots of shavings have prevented any damage to his bottom side. Whether or not Oliver ragains use of his hind end, he lives each day to the fullest and in the best way that he knows how. He is a fine teacher

Winter 2000

It is with much sadness that we say goodbye to our dear friend Oliver. He was a pig who taught many that limitations are only in your mind. This fellow lived for years with us as a regular pig - out exploring in the woods, sunbathing with friends, cooling off in the pond and, of course, always eager for treats. In my heart was great admiration for his strength overcoming his body's limitations. I will never forget him.
