Help the pigs
Mabel's story

Spring 1998

Mabel

Mabel in the spring of 1998

Mabel was slaughter bound at the livestock auction when she was rescued. She wore a metal ear tag with the number 120 on it and still has the nail-sized hole in her ear. Her hooves were grown out like hands, long and spread out. She was so shut down that all she did was sleep.

Today she is one of the first to greet visitors and I sometimes feel that my shadow has the shape of a pig as Mabel is always with me as I do my chores. She is a dear, sweet friend.

Fall 2008

After living many years with her friends at Pigs Peace, Mabel suffers a stroke and dies. I miss her and know that her her friends here do too.
