Update on Bubba

Fall 2009

Bubba has had a lump on his throat which a biopsy determined it was not malignant. It did fluctuate in size but since it did not appear to cause discomfort I opted to monitor it rather than perform an invasive surgery.

One recent morning Bubba suddenly had difficulty breathing and, after falling and struggling to get up, he was gasping for breath. The mass had grown in size and was interfering with his breathing. The physical exertion in getting back up on his feet had taxed his compromised airway and he could not get enough oxygen to his lungs.

Bubba was rushed in for emergency surgery and the lump, which turned out to be a thyroid cyst, was removed.

Bubba has been under medical observation for a couple weeks. After his first week of recovery he was well enough to receive visitors -and his pal Charlie was very anxious to see him.

Charlie has spent some nights sleeping with Bubba as Bubba continues to mend. Today was Bubba's first day grazing in grass since the surgery -though he continues to remain under observation and is sleeping inside. Charlie was at his side while out grazing.

So far, the surgery has been successful. Bubba appears comfortable and is breathing normally. At this rate he should be back with Charlie sleeping in their barn together again very soon.
